Provisioning a New Yealink Phone

DVGVoIP uses 3CX's built-in auto-provisioning so your new Yealink phone configures itself automatically — no manual SIP entry required. Here's what to expect and what to do if it doesn't work.

How Auto-Provisioning Works

DVGVoIP uses 3CX's RPS (Remote Provisioning Server) — Yealink's cloud-based redirect service. When a Yealink phone boots for the first time, it contacts Yealink's RPS servers using its MAC address. The RPS server looks up that MAC address and redirects the phone to the DVGVoIP 3CX server, which then pushes the full configuration automatically.

This means the phone receives everything it needs — SIP credentials, line keys, speed dials, codecs, and firmware — without anyone touching the phone's settings manually.

The MAC address of your phone must be registered in the 3CX Admin Console before auto-provisioning will work. DVGVoIP handles this for phones we supply. If you purchased the phone elsewhere, contact us first.

Step-by-Step: First Boot

  1. Plug an Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the back of the phone. Do not use the PC port — that port is a passthrough for a computer, not for the phone's own connection.
  2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to a PoE-capable switch port, or plug in the included power adapter if your switch does not support PoE.
  3. The phone powers on and displays "Initializing..." followed by "Configuring..." — this is normal. The process takes approximately 2–5 minutes.
  4. The phone contacts Yealink's RPS server, which redirects it to the DVGVoIP 3CX provisioning URL.
  5. The 3CX server pushes the full configuration to the phone, including SIP account credentials, line key assignments, and codec settings.
  6. When provisioning completes, the display shows the extension number and either "Registered" or the user's name configured in 3CX.

PoE vs. Power Adapter

Yealink phones are designed to be powered by PoE (Power over Ethernet) — the switch supplies power through the same cable that carries data. If your network switch does not have PoE, use the power adapter that came with the phone. Both methods work identically; PoE simply reduces cable clutter.

If the Phone Doesn't Auto-Provision

The most common reason a phone fails to auto-provision is that its MAC address has not been registered in the 3CX Admin Console. To check or add a phone:

  1. Log in to the 3CX Admin Console.
  2. Go to Admin › Phones.
  3. Verify the phone's MAC address appears in the list. The MAC address is printed on a label on the underside of the phone.
  4. If the MAC is not listed, contact DVGVoIP at support@dvgvoip.com with the MAC address and the extension it should be assigned to.

Other things to check: confirm the phone is connected to the LAN port (not PC port), that the network switch port is active, and that the phone is receiving an IP address (press OK › Status › Network on the phone to check).

Manual Provisioning (Fallback)

If auto-provisioning via RPS is not working and DVGVoIP has given you a provisioning URL, you can enter it directly on the phone:

  1. On the phone, press Menu › Settings › Advanced. The admin password is admin by default.
  2. Select Auto Provision.
  3. Enter the Server URL provided by DVGVoIP into the provisioning server field.
  4. Select Auto Provision Now and confirm. The phone will download its configuration and reboot.

Only use manual provisioning if instructed by DVGVoIP. Auto-provisioning via RPS is the standard method and requires no intervention once the MAC address is registered.
