Common porting questions
Can I port a toll-free number (1-800, 1-888)?
Yes. Toll-free numbers are fully portable in Canada. DVGVoIP can port your 1-800, 1-888, 1-877, or other toll-free numbers just like local numbers.
Do I have to cancel my current service first?
No — don't cancel first. Cancelling before the port is initiated can make porting harder or impossible. DVGVoIP submits the port request and your carrier releases the number once it's approved. We guide you through the correct sequence.
Will there be any downtime during the switch?
No. We set up your new 3CX system and test it thoroughly before the number port happens. The cutover itself takes seconds. We schedule it for a low-traffic window and confirm everything is working before the old service disconnects.
What if I have multiple numbers?
All your numbers can be ported — main lines, DDI/DID numbers, fax lines, and toll-free. We port them together so everything moves at the same time.
How long does porting take?
Typically 5–10 business days from when we submit the port request. During that time your current service keeps working normally — there's no gap.
