What Happens After Provisioning
Once DVGVoIP has configured your 3CX phone system, you will receive a welcome email sent to the address on your account. This email is your starting point — it contains everything you need to access your system for the first time. Keep it somewhere safe, as it includes credentials that are unique to your setup.
Provisioning typically completes within one business day of your order being confirmed. If you have not received your welcome email within 24 hours of your expected go-live date, check your spam folder first, then contact us at support@dvgvoip.com.
What Is in Your Welcome Email
Your welcome email will contain the following information:
- Your 3CX web client URL — formatted as
https://[pbxurl]/webclient - Your extension number (typically 3 or 4 digits)
- Your initial PIN or password for first login
- A QR code for setting up the 3CX mobile app
- Instructions for any desk phones that have been ordered
- Contact details for DVGVoIP support
Tip: The QR code in your welcome email is the easiest way to set up the mobile app. It encodes all your server settings automatically — no manual entry needed.
Logging In for the First Time
- Open the 3CX web client URL from your welcome email in a browser. Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge is recommended for the best experience.
- Enter your extension number and the initial PIN provided in the welcome email.
- You will be prompted to set a new password on first login. Choose something secure and store it in a password manager.
- Once logged in, you will see the 3CX interface with a sidebar showing Calls, Chat, Contacts, and Meetings.
- Set your status to Available using the status selector at the top of the sidebar.
Making Your First Test Call
Before relying on the system for business calls, make a quick test call to confirm everything is working.
- In the 3CX web client, click the dial pad icon in the sidebar.
- Dial
*47— this is the 3CX echo test extension. It will play back your voice so you can confirm your microphone and speaker are working. - If you have a desk phone, lift the handset and dial
*47from there as well to test the physical device. - Try calling a colleague's extension by dialing their 3 or 4 digit number directly.
- Ask someone to call your number from an outside line to confirm inbound calls ring correctly.
Tip: If the echo test plays back with delay or distortion, your network may need QoS configuration. See the Network Requirements guide for details.
Setting Up the 3CX Mobile App
The 3CX mobile app lets you make and receive calls on your business number from your smartphone. It is available for both iOS and Android.
- Download the 3CX app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Search for "3CX".
- Open the app and select "Scan QR Code" when prompted.
- Scan the QR code from your welcome email. The app will configure itself automatically with your server address, extension, and credentials.
- Grant microphone permissions when the app requests them — these are required for calls to work.
- Your extension will show as registered in the 3CX admin panel once the app connects successfully.
If you need to set up the app on a second device or the QR code has expired, log into the 3CX web client, go to your profile settings, and generate a new provisioning QR code from there.
Desk Phone Setup
If DVGVoIP has supplied or pre-configured a desk phone for your account, it is set up using auto-provisioning. This means the phone contacts the 3CX server automatically when plugged into your network and downloads its configuration without any manual entry.
- Connect the desk phone to your network using a standard Ethernet cable. Use a PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch port if available, or use the included power adapter.
- Wait approximately 60–90 seconds for the phone to boot and download its configuration.
- The display should show your extension number and "Available" status when provisioning is complete.
- If the phone shows "Not Registered" or similar after 2 minutes, confirm it is on the same network as your other devices and contact DVGVoIP support.
Note: Auto-provisioning only works correctly if the phone is on the same network that DVGVoIP configured during setup. Moving phones to a different office location or subnet may require a reconfiguration.
If Something Is Wrong
Here are the most common first-time setup issues and what to check:
| Problem | What to Check |
|---|---|
| Cannot reach the web client URL | Confirm the URL is exactly as shown in the welcome email. Try from a different browser or device. |
| Login fails with correct credentials | Passwords are case-sensitive. If still failing, use the password reset link on the login page. |
| No audio on calls | Check browser microphone permissions. In Chrome, click the lock icon in the address bar. |
| Desk phone shows Not Registered | Check that the phone has an IP address and can reach the internet. Restart the phone. |
| Mobile app not connecting | Ensure the QR code was scanned completely. Check that mobile data or Wi-Fi is active. |
