Transferring calls in 3CX works the same way whether you’re on a desk phone, desktop app, or mobile app.
Two Types of Transfer
Blind Transfer — You send the call directly to another extension without speaking to them first. Use this when you don’t need to introduce the caller.
Attended (Warm) Transfer — You put the caller on hold, call the extension first to announce the caller, then complete the transfer. Use this for important calls or when the recipient needs context.
On a Desk Phone
Blind Transfer
- While on the call, press the Transfer button
- Dial the extension number
- Press Transfer again (or hang up)
Attended Transfer
- While on the call, press Transfer
- Dial the extension and wait for the other person to answer
- Announce the caller
- Press Transfer to complete
On the 3CX Desktop App or Web Client
- While on an active call, click the Transfer button in the call window
- Start typing a name or extension — the app will suggest matches from your directory
- For Blind Transfer: click the contact and select Blind Transfer
- For Attended Transfer: click the contact and select Attended Transfer — your call is placed on hold while you consult, then click Complete Transfer
On the 3CX Mobile App
- During a call, tap the … (more options) button
- Tap Transfer
- Choose Blind Transfer or Attended Transfer
- Enter the extension or select a contact
Transfer to Voicemail
To send a caller directly to someone’s voicemail without ringing their phone:
- Dial *55 followed by the extension number (e.g., *55201 for extension 201)
This works on desk phones and the desktop app.
Transfer to an External Number
You can transfer a call to a mobile number or external phone number:
- Press Transfer
- Dial the full external number (e.g., 18075551234)
- Complete the transfer
Note: transferring to external numbers uses your SIP trunk channels.
