How to Transfer a Call

Transferring calls in 3CX works the same way whether you’re on a desk phone, desktop app, or mobile app.

Two Types of Transfer

Blind Transfer — You send the call directly to another extension without speaking to them first. Use this when you don’t need to introduce the caller.

Attended (Warm) Transfer — You put the caller on hold, call the extension first to announce the caller, then complete the transfer. Use this for important calls or when the recipient needs context.

On a Desk Phone

Blind Transfer

  1. While on the call, press the Transfer button
  2. Dial the extension number
  3. Press Transfer again (or hang up)

Attended Transfer

  1. While on the call, press Transfer
  2. Dial the extension and wait for the other person to answer
  3. Announce the caller
  4. Press Transfer to complete

On the 3CX Desktop App or Web Client

  1. While on an active call, click the Transfer button in the call window
  2. Start typing a name or extension — the app will suggest matches from your directory
  3. For Blind Transfer: click the contact and select Blind Transfer
  4. For Attended Transfer: click the contact and select Attended Transfer — your call is placed on hold while you consult, then click Complete Transfer

On the 3CX Mobile App

  1. During a call, tap the (more options) button
  2. Tap Transfer
  3. Choose Blind Transfer or Attended Transfer
  4. Enter the extension or select a contact

Transfer to Voicemail

To send a caller directly to someone’s voicemail without ringing their phone:

  • Dial *55 followed by the extension number (e.g., *55201 for extension 201)

This works on desk phones and the desktop app.

Transfer to an External Number

You can transfer a call to a mobile number or external phone number:

  1. Press Transfer
  2. Dial the full external number (e.g., 18075551234)
  3. Complete the transfer

Note: transferring to external numbers uses your SIP trunk channels.
